Solar in Delaware

Delaware splits its solar support two ways: green energy grants that depend on which utility supplies your power, and SRECs that any Delaware homeowner can earn regardless of utility.

What solar costs depend on in Delaware

Delaware systems tend to be sized for full offset because net metering rules are favorable and roof space is rarely the constraint.

Delaware incentives and rebates

What you qualify for in Delaware depends on who supplies your power. Delmarva Power customers apply to DNREC’s Green Energy Program, funded by a charge on Delmarva bills. Customers of a municipal electric utility apply to the DEMEC Green Energy Grant, worth up to $3,500 for a home. Delaware Electric Cooperative runs its own. An energy audit and an approved contractor are required.

The grant and SREC income are alternatives, not additions. DNREC Green Energy Program applicants assign their SRECs to the Delaware Sustainable Energy Utility, so a homeowner who takes that grant does not also keep the certificate income. Worth working out which is worth more for your own system before applying.

18 weeks from signed agreement to a working system

Median, not best case. Most of it is permitting and utility interconnection rather than installation, which is usually a day or two on the roof — so the number moves with your municipality and your utility, not with how busy we are.
